NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some pitchers going today have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. This is based on statistical analysis only.
First Base:
Best Bet:
Miguel Cabrera, Tigers ($5,100): Miggy has faced Roberto Hernandez 39 times and has picked up two walks and 14 hits. He has two doubles, three homers, and an impressive eight RBI. If you’re looking to pay for a hitter, Miggy is your best bet.
If You’re Cheap:
Brandon Belt, Giants ($4,100): Belt has six at bats off of Chad Bettis in his career, and he has reached base every time! He boasts a walk, a double, and four singles off of Bettis. He shouldn’t have a problem reaching base in this one either.
Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers ($4,000): Gonzalez has cooled off a little since his torrid start, but you won’t notice it today. He is 10 for 28 with three walks, two homers, and four RBI off of James Shields. Those are very good numbers if you don’t want to spend the extra $1,100.
Second Base:
Best Bet:
DJ LeMahieu, Rockies ($3,300): LeMahieu is 5 for 14 with a double, a triple, and four RBI off of Tim Hudson. He is a strong bet this afternoon.
If You’re Cheap:
Howie Kendrick, Dodgers ($3,000): Kendrick has owned James Shields. He is a whopping 15 for 29 with a walk, four doubles, two triples, a homer, and three RBI off of him. He is one of the best bets of the day.
Shortstop:
Best Bet:
Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies ($4,100): Tulo is 8 for 25 with a walk, two doubles, and a solo home run off of Tim Hudson. And honestly, taking a hitter at Coors Field is never a bad idea.
If You’re Cheap:
Freddy Galvis, Phillies ($2,800): Galvis is an impressive 6 for 17 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI off of Gio Gonzalez. Actually, Gonzalez has not fared that well against the Phillies. Galvis won’t be the only Phillie on this list.
Third Base:
Best Bet:
Josh Harrison, Pirates ($3,100): Harrison has been on fire lately. He has also done well against Mets starter Jon Niese. Harrison is 3 for 9 with a walk and a double off of him. With as hot as Harrison has been lately, he is a strong bet.
If You’re Cheap:
Chase Headley, Yankees ($2,600): Headley is 7 for 19 with five walks, a homer, and two RBI off of Yovani Gallardo. He is about the only Yankee that has had any measure of success off of Gallardo, so the basepaths could be very empty for him today.
Next: Let's Check The Outfield

Catcher:
Best Bet:
Michael McKenry, Rockies ($3,000): I know that Nick Hundley was just rested on Thursday, but McKenry has hit Tim Hudson very hard in his career so far. He is 5 for 11 off of Hudson with an RBI. Hundley is just 2 for 12 off of the veteran righty. I would be surprised if McKenry didn’t start the game today.
If You’re Cheap:
Hector Sanchez, Giants ($2,200): Sanchez is three for five with a homer and five RBI off of Chad Bettis in his career. Buster Posey hasn’t had a day off in nearly a week. This would seem like an ideal time to rest him, especially since Sanchez has fared so well against Bettis.
Outfield:
Best Bets:
Bryce Harper, Nationals ($6,100): Harper is 9 for 20 with a walk, a double, a triple, and a solo homer off of Aaron Harang. We also know what Harper has done in the month of May, as if you need another reason to give him a shot today.
Andrew McCutchen, Pirates ($4,100): McCutchen is 5 for 13 with two walks, three doubles, and two RBI off of Jon Niese. The Pirates are rolling along pretty well right now. McCutchen should be right in the thick of it once again.
Charlie Blackmon, Rockies ($3,800): Blackmon is another Rockie that has Tim Hudson figured out. He is 8 for 23 with a walk, a double, and an RBI off of Hudson. Of course, there is always a chance that Hudson shuts them down, but I wouldn’t count on it at Coors Field.
If You’re Cheap:
Torii Hunter, Twins ($3,400): Hunter has reclaimed some of his heyday back in Minnesota. He is 10 of 26 off of Jose Quintana, but all of those hits are singles. Still, that is points, and he has also driven in a couple of runs off of him.
Ben Revere, Phillies ($2,900): Surprisingly enough, Revere is 9 for 22 with a triple and two RBI off of Gio Gonzalez. It is surprising since Revere usually doesn’t hit lefties well. It seems like he has solved one of them at least.
