The Georgia Bulldogs now have another option at quarterback this fall in Greyson Lambert

Former Virginia Cavaliers quarterback Greyson Lambert will indeed be heading to the Georgia Bulldogs following his transfer decision from Charlottesville, ESPN’s Joe Schad is reporting on Wednesday. As a graduate transfer, Lambert has two years of eligibility left and can start for Georgia immediately this fall.

Throughout the course of his search for a new home, Georgia was expected by many to be the front-runner for his services and that obviously ended up coming to fruition here. Just yesterday, Georgia head coach Mark Richt admitted that he was going after the junior quarterback, and his pitch must have been more than enough to secure the deal.

Lambert competed for the starting job at Virginia this past spring, however after he was outperformed by Matt Johns, whom he split time with last season, he decided that it would be best to go play the rest of his career elsewhere. And with the eligibility he has remaining, coupled with the fact that he has his undergraduate degree, his options were wide open.

Originally from the state of Georgia, the fight is not over yet for Lambert. While some might consider him a front-runner to land the starting position given his experience, he will still have to compete with Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and Jacob Park. When Georgia’s spring ended, Ramsey and Bauta were at the top, but Richt did make it a note that the competition was still pretty much open. Now you can add another competitor to that list.

Last season for Virginia, Lambert started nine games, throwing for 1,972 yards with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. However, with the monster backfield that the Bulldogs are in possession of, Lambert would not be asked to do nearly as much for Georgia as he was for Virginia over the past few seasons.

Whatever the case, the Georgia fall quarterback race just got a little more interesting to watch play out.
