There are seven games tonight, which give us many more options than the early tournaments did. Which players are the best bets for tonight based solely on statistics? Let’s find out!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. I just provide the facts.

Here are my late FanDuel picks for June 4:

Pitcher:

Best Bet:

Michael Wacha, Cardinals ($8,900): Wacha has only faced the Dodgers once in his career, and it was last Saturday. He pitched pretty well, but made a costly mistake that resulted in a three run home run by Yasmani Grandal and a loss for Wacha. If he can avoid that one bad pitch, he has a good chance to pitch well again.

Honorable Mention:

Jeremy Hellickson, Diamondbacks ($5,900): The obvious deterrent here is that Hellickson is opposing Matt Harvey, but the D-backs are hitting .313 off of Harvey in his career and he has given up 11 runs in his last two starts. On top of that, Hellickson has handled the Mets well. Curtis Granderson is just 2 for 15 off of him, which skews the numbers some. You can take David Wright‘s two for two out of there are well, but that still gives you a .250 average of the rest of the squad. If you want to go cheap, Hellickson could win you some money. Or it could blow up in your face since he is going against Harvey.

Carlos Frias, Dodgers ($6,400): Frias pitched very well against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing one unearned run in seven innings. The bad news is that he gave up ten earned runs against San Diego in his previous start. There is a large amount of risk involved, but the stats are what they are.

Stay Away:

Chris Young, Royals ($6,300): The Indians have hit Young well. They are hitting .307 with five homers and 12 runs scored in just 75 at bats off of him. Young gave up four of his five runs in the month of May against the Yankees on the 27th, so maybe teams are starting to figure him out.

Catcher:

Best Bet:

Yasmani Grandal, Dodgers ($3,100): Grandal has only faced Wacha twice, but his one hit was a three run home run that ended up propelling the Dodgers to the win. That is good enough to get him the top spot in a pretty light night.

If You’re Cheap:

Geovany Soto, White Sox ($2,300): Soto hasn’t done all that well against Yovani Gallardo in his career, but when he has hit him, he has hit him hard. He has only five hits in 24 at bats, but one of those is a double and two of them are home runs. He has also driven in three. If you decide to go with Soto, just make sure he is in the lineup beforehand.

Next: How Does The Infield Look?

First Base:

Best Bet:

Joey Votto, Reds ($3,600): Votto has not faced Aaron Harang much, but when he has, he has done well. In nine at bats he has three walks, a single, a double, a home run with two runs batted in. He is a strong bet tonight against the Phillies.

If You’re Cheap:

Adam LaRoche, White Sox ($2,800): LaRoche has torched Gallardo in his career. He is 11 for 30 with five walks, three doubles, two homers, and six RBI. He is a great low priced option this evening.

Second Base:

Best Bet:

Jason Kipnis, Indians ($4,600): Kipnis has only faced Chris Young six times, so you know if he is here, he has had some good success against him. Kipnis has three hits, and all of them are for extra bases with two doubles and a homer. He has also driven in two runs off of him. If you have the money, Kipnis is the safe bet.

Honorable Mention:

Danny Espinosa, Nationals ($2,400): Espinosa is 3 for 7 off of Jake Arrieta with a triple, a homer, and four RBI. This is one of the guys that Espinosa has figured out, so he could have a good night tonight.

Shortstop:

Best Bet:

Ian Desmond, Nationals ($3,100): Desmond is 4 for 13 with a solo home run off of Jake Arrieta. Jhonny Peralta didn’t fare well against Carlos Frias last week, so Desmond is a safer bet.

If You’re Cheap:

Alcides Escobar, Royals ($2,300): Escobar is hitting a cool .500 (4 for 8) off of Trevor Bauer with a double and an RBI. He isn’t a threat to go deep, but he is a threat to score and drive in runs while maybe stealing a bag. Not a bad gamble at this price.

Third Base:

Best Bet:

Matt Carpenter, Cardinals ($3,700): Carpenter was about the only Cardinal that could touch Carlos Frias last week. He had two of the five team hits off of Frias, but they were both singles. At any rate, what do you think the odds are that Frias can shut down the Cards again? That’s what I thought.

If You’re Cheap:

Yunel Escobar, Nationals ($2,400): Escobar is 7 for 18 with six singles, a homer, and an RBI off of Arrieta.  He could be a great bargain at this price.

Next: Who Are The Best OF Options?

Jun 1, 2015; Miami, FL, USA; Chicago Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler (24) rounds third base and scores a run during the first inning against the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Outfield:

Bryce Harper, Nationals ($5,800): Harper has cooled off some, but he has a good history against Arrieta. He is 4 for 9 with two walks and a double off of the Cubs’ youngster, but doesn’t have anything for counting stats. That could change tonight.

Michael Brantley, Indians ($3,900): Brantley is 2 for 5 with a walk, a triple, and two RBI off of Chris Young. When you look at how Cleveland as a whole has hit him, Brantley has a good chance to be picked up when he gets on base as well.

Brandon Moss, Indians ($3,700): Moss is only 4 for 14 off of Young, but three of those hits are home runs. He has also walked twice and drove in four. He is one of the stronger bets of the night.

Dexter Fowler, Cubs ($3,500): Fowler is 5 for 11 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Gio Gonzalez in his career. He will try to be a one man wrecking ball against the Nats tonight because the Cubs as a whole have not done well against Gio.

If You’re Cheap:

Alex Gordon, Royals ($3,000): Gordon is only 2 for 7 off of Trevor Bauer, but he has walked four times and one of his hits was a two run homer. There is a great chance that he gets on base or more against Bauer tonight.

Seth Smith, Mariners ($2,500): Smith has done well against Erasmo Ramirez. Smith is 4 for 11 with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI off of Erasmo. If Smith is in the lineup for Seattle, he should be in yours as well.

Michael Bourn, Indians ($2,200): Bourn is yet another Cleveland player that has hit Chris Young well. Bourn is 5 for 10 with a walk, two doubles, and an RBI off of the Kansas City veteran. Load up on Cleveland players tonight!
