Last week it was Jimmie Johnson winning his fourth race of the season as he tamed the Monster Mile for the 10th time in his career. This week, NASCAR heads to the tricky triangle at Pocono for the Axalta 400.
And while Johnson was the main storyline last week, it’s teammate Jeff Gordon who is front and center at the Tricky Triangle. Much like Johnson dominating Dover, Gordon owns Pocono and has won the race more times than any other driver.
As expected, it was a great round of qualifying on Friday for Gordon, as he’ll begin Sunday’s race in fourth place.
The most consistent driver of the 2015 season, defending Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick, looked like he was on his way to the pole at Pocono after the first two rounds of qualifying. Instead, in the last round, he only finished fifth. Still, his season has been so good that even a bad run means that he begins a race in the top-5. Kurt Busch sits on the pole, with Carl Edwards on the outside and Martin Truex Jr. starting in third.
