The Chicago Cubs are on the rise in the NL Central, and adding David Price seems to be only a matter of time.

When the Chicago Cubs hired Joe Maddon away from the Tampa Bay Rays, it was only a matter of time before he partnered with Theo Epstein to bring some top dollar free agents to the North Side. While Jon Lester has hardly panned out for the Cubs, the team has a bright future with the likes of

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago, when David Price hits free agency this upcoming winter, he’s going to make a natural fit for the Chicago Cubs. As Rogers points out — and some in baseball have naturally stumbled on — the connection between Maddon and his former pitcher is already there and there’s the added bonus of Price seeming warm to the idea of joining the Cubs.

"“They have a lot of guys they can control for a long time,” he says. “It’s very similar to when I first came up in Tampa. Just a bunch of young guys out there having fun. That’s what it’s about. You have to be able to have fun. I don’t want to win and not have fun.”"

That’s not a declaration that he’s going to for sure sign with the Chicago Cubs this upcoming offseason, but it’s a push in the right direction. Chicago was rumored to be looking to acquire Price at the trade deadline last summer before the Detroit Tigers jumped on him but thanks to no new deal being reached this offseason, Price is heading for free agency and being able to pick his own fate.

Chicago might have an edge but they don’t have Price under contract and until they do, all of this talk is going to be nothing more than rumors and heresy.
