Last college football season the Big 12 Conference was one that was marred in controversy by the time the campaign was over. When it was all said and done, mainly due to the lack of a conference title game, both the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs were shut out of the College Football Playoff despite both having one-loss records.
Because of that, a lot of people will be keeping a close eye on the Big 12 this upcoming season, pretty much because it’s been established that you need an undefeated record, for the most part, to be considered for a shot at the national title.
Even though they do not have a conference title game, though, a conference champion is still determined by the end of the season, and both Baylor and TCU are the favorites to capture that crown heading into this season. These two programs have been able to surpass all others throughout the course of recent years, so it’ll be interesting to watch whether or not one of the two will take the next step and become national championship contenders as well.
Or, will the traditional powers the likes of Texas and Oklahoma be able to knock these guys from the top? Would you place your money on that?
Well, the preseason odds have been released for the Big 12 heading into 2015, and here’s a look at those exact numbers.
Big 12:
TCU | 17-10 |
Baylor | 5-2 |
Oklahoma | 4-1 |
Oklahoma State | 5-1 |
Texas | 7-1 |
Kansas State | 10-1 |
West Virginia | 15-1 |
Texas Tech | 20-1 |
Iowa State | 25-1 |
Kansas | 100-1 |
If there is any darkhorse in there, it might in fact be the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are returning some talent this year that might be able to land them a Big 12 title when all is said and done. It won’t be easy to knock Baylor and TCU off, but crazier things have happened.
