Indiana Hoosiers safety Antonio Allen facing felony drug charges
Indiana Hoosiers football player Antonio Allen has been arrested on some serious drug-related offenses.
Indiana Hoosiers safety Antonio Allen was a huge part of the Hoosiers’ defense as a sophomore this past season. Allen led the team with 74 tackles while also recording 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. For his efforts last season he was honorable mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and media.
With college football just a couple of months away, Allen should be getting ready to be an anchor on the Hoosier defense. Instead, he’s currently in a Monroe County jail cell on felony drug charges.
Mike Miller, a beat writer for The Herald-Times, sent out this update via Twitter regarding Allen’s current state of affairs:
Drug charges are never a good thing, and it’s pretty safe to say that offenses for dealing methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine are just about as bad as it gets.
According to FOX 59 in Indiana, Allen was arrested early Tuesday evenings and is currently in Monroe County Jail on a bail of $75,000 surety in addition to $1,000 cash.
Unsurprisingly, the university has acted quickly on the matter. According the WTHR Channel 13, Allen has been suspended from the team following his arrest. Indiana University also released the following statement:
"“Allen has been suspended from all football activities effective immediately. We will continue to gather facts, monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”"
While the information regarding the circumstances of the arrest are unknown at this time, things don’t look good for Allen. Given the seriousness of the charges, his worries go far beyond playing football as a Hoosier again.
