The Denver Nuggets are looking to part ways with Ty Lawson for the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft from the Sacramento Kings, according to reports.

Looking toward the future, the Denver Nuggets are trying to figure out a plan that would bring younger, more talented players with a higher upside to town. According to reports, point guard Ty Lawson is drawing some interest from the Sacramento Kings for a first-round draft pick.

A sixth-year player out of North Carolina, Lawson has been one of the better point guards in the league since being drafted in 2009.

Since joining the Nuggets, Lawson has failed to bring Denver past the first round of the NBA playoffs, losing four straight times from 2009-2013 in the first round. Lawson reportedly asked the Nuggets to trade him back in May if the team didn’t make a major move this summer.

According to Chad Ford of ESPNLawson’s wish might come true sooner rather than later. Apparently, the Nuggets have been trying to deal the 27-year-old point guard to the Kings, but Sacramento’s front office might not be biting despite head coach George Karl’s interest.

"“Nuggets have been trying to make that deal regardless, but so far they can’t get Kings (or anyone else for that matter) to bite on Lawson.”"

The No. 6 pick in the upcoming NBA draft is the one in discussion right now and it seems like that may be a bit of a stretch for a guy due to make $12.4 million in 2015-16 and $13.2 million the following season. Sacramento might not be ready to deal a prestigious draft pick for a decent point guard.

Sacramento may want a bit of an upgrade at point guard, but Darren Collison has done just as well as Lawson has done in the same amount of time in the league as both were drafted in 2009.

It’s hard to believe this deal would ever actually happen because it usually takes a superstar, which Lawson is not, for a trade into the top-five or top-10 in the NBA draft.

For example, Kevin Love was involved in a deal to the Cleveland Cavaliers last year after they drafted Andrew Wiggins No. 1 overall. Love, in fact, is a superstar in this league.

Sacramento could get a great young player in the draft that may rise up to become a superstar with the No. 6 overall pick like Stanley Johnson, Justise Winslow and, heck, maybe even Emmanuel Mudiay — if he drops that far.

This deal is unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
