LSU Tigers quarterback Anthony Jennings has been arrested for unlawful entry, 247 Sports is reporting, along with two other members of the team. According to the report, the three men are currently in the process of being booked.
With just a couple months to go until the college football season gets underway, this is not news that head coach Les Miles and the Tigers wanted, especially considering that Jennings was set to battle once again with sophomore Brandon Harris for the starting job under center.
Last year as a sophomore, Jennings started all but one game for LSU. In 13 total games played last year, Jennings threw for 1,611 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He didn’t exactly turn a lot of heads with his performance last year, but there was expected to be some sort of improvement heading into this season.
Now the junior might be in danger of not seeing the field at all this season, and if he did in fact improve from last year, then this is a huge blow to an LSU team that was looking to make some strides towards getting back to the top of the SEC. With the emergence of sophomore running back Leonard Fournette, there’s also a chance that not much will be asked of whomever the quarterback is.
If this ends up being the worst case scenario, then that responsibility will fall on Brandon Harris.
As more about the arrest of Jennings comes available, we’ll keep you updated.
