Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins is unhappy in Northern California and is ready to leave town. There were rumors that the Kings should ship Cousins out of town before the NBA Draft, which obviously never materialized, as reports of the strained relationship with George Karl emerge.
There were rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers were the top suitor for Cousins. In a report from Sam Amick of USA Today, he confirms that there was a trade in the works while also adding that Cousins’ agent, Dan Fegan of Relativity Sports, was seemingly given permission to pursue a trade.
"So when Fegan tried to orchestrate a trade that would send Cousins to the Los Angeles Lakers in the days leading up to the draft – one that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive gave him permission to pursue when he made it clear that Cousins wanted out – it wouldn’t have shocked anyone if Divac decided to do the deal just to quiet this storm. Instead, he’s trying to fix a fractured situation on his terms."
Don’t forget that Vlade Divac said recently that Cousins is “untradeable,” which seems to be nothing but a front office like and maneuver to keep fans calm. This would’ve been a huge grab for the Lakers, but they now focus on the future while the Kings still try to sort out the situation surrounding their star player.
