Heading into the 2015 college football season, the main story that everyone has their eyes on is the battle to be the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The reigning, defending national champions have three very viable options on the table in Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones.
Now if you were to ask the father of J.T. Barrett who he thinks should be the starter come fall camp, you’d probably go out of your way to think that he’d pick his son. Well, in fact, you would be wrong.
Joe Barrett recently spoke with the Columbus Dispatch, and he is of the belief that instead of his son heading into the season as the starter, the reins should be handed back over to Braxton Miller.
"“In other words, Braxton should get that position back, then everybody else should go try to take it from him.”"
It’s somewhat surprising, yes, but the logic that he’s using makes all the sense in the world. While everything that happened to Ohio State last season with both Barrett and Jones seeing time under center, the fact of the matter is that Miller is a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year. His preseason injury was unfortunate, but before it even occurred he was one of the top three players in all of college football.
Now, of course, this isn’t to say that Miller will be the starter when the team goes on the road for their opener to take on Virginia Tech, trying to avenge their one loss from last season. They could get into camp and either Barrett or Jones could knock him from the perch.
Either way, even for as great of a college football coach as Urban Meyer is, no one wants to have to make this final decision.
