LeBron James is using his leverage in opting out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers to force them to make moves that improves the roster. There are a handful of moves that the Cavs can make, but their first move was one we didn’t see coming.

Cleveland needs to find veteran voices to support LeBron James but voices that are backed up with actual talent on the court. That was a mistake the Cavs fell into with James Jones, Shawn Marion and Mike Miller, and they want to try and avoid those pitfalls again.

According to Chris Haynes from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavaliers used the opening hours of free agency to reach out to Tayshaun Prince.

"In an effort to shore up wing depth, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached out to the representatives of free agent small forward Tayshaun Prince, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group."

When the Cavaliers were rumored to be spending money like they haven’t before, Tayshaun Prince wasn’t a name that was kicked around near the top of the list. In fact, aside from some rumors before the trade deadline last year, this is sort of the first we’re hearing of the Cavaliers interest in Prince.

That doesn’t mean he’s a bad fit though, as he can solve a massive problem on the wing for Cleveland that plagued them in the postseason. Jones and Miller can be great players, but they’re washed up, old and hardly played this season.

Prince isn’t really a spring chicken though, and he could run the risk of being a player who signs on to win a title but then is relegated to a backseat role. With Mike Miller returning in 2015-16, the Cavaliers pursuing Prince could mean the end of LeBron’s friend in Cleveland and the arrival of a veteran who can actually contribute.
