Suspended Florida State running back Dalvin Cook might just want to go underground for the next month or so. Especially now that another misstep from his past has come to light.

Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples dug into Cook’s records and found that the running back was issued a citation by Tallahassee Animal Services on July 25, 2014. The citation, which can be seen in full below, states that an Animal Control officer found three puppies chained together by their necks at Cook’s residence. Two of the dogs were struggling to breath and had to be removed “for their safety.” All three were tethered outside without any shelter from the elements.

The official citation was for failure to provide shelter to the animals.

Cook is starting to see a trickle-down effect similar to that of his former teammate Jameis Winston. Once one allegation/arrest/summons is brought about, investigators start foraging through all the backlogs. Not soon after, all the skeletons come to light. In Winston’s case it started with rape charges and moved down to reports of him squirrel hunting on campus, “stealing” soda from a Burger King, and shooting out windows of an apartment complex during a BB gun fight with teammates. Regardless of the severity, Cook can now likely expect every past slip-up or indiscretion to bubble up to the surface and disseminate through the media.

FSU suspended Cook from all team activities last week after he was charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly punching a woman in the head, repeatedly, while outside a bar in June. Prior to his suspension, the rising sophomore was believed to be a preseason Heisman watch list candidate for the 2015 season.
