MLB trade deadline 2015: Angels acquire Shane Victorino
The Los Angeles Angels have acquired outfielder Shane Victorino from the Boston Red Sox for infielder Josh Rutledge, according to 120 Sports. Victorino will help the Angels get a little extra offense with a group that struggles outside of Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. For the Red Sox, they get some infield depth and shed a little salary.

Victorino, 34, has played in 33 games this season for Boston. However, the Hawaiian has been extremely unproductive for the Red Sox, only hitting .245 with a home run and four RBI. Victorino was once a top-notch center fielder when he played with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2005-2012, but with age his game has eroded badly.
Angels interim general manager Bill Stoneman is clearly hoping that a change of scenery can jump-start Victorino. All Los Angeles wants is a few months of decent production before the aging veteran becomes a free agent this winter. Last year, Victorino played in 30 games and hit .268. The year before, Victorino was key in helping the Red Sox win the World Series, hitting .294 with 15 home runs and 61 RBI.
Boston simply wanted to get the money off the books, because Rutledge is nothing more than a bench player who can help fill the void with Dustin Pedroia on the disabled list. Despite high hopes for Boston entering the season, the campaign has fallen flat thanks to some of the worst pitching the organization has seen in some time.
The Angels currently lead the Houston Astros in the American League West by a game. Houston made a major deal last week when it acquired starting pitcher Scott Kazmir from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers.
