The Cleveland Browns don’t know yet who their starting quarterback will be in 2015, but they might already have a plan for 2016

With the 2015 NFL season just a few weeks away now, it’s coming down to crunch time for the Cleveland Browns to pick a starting quarterback. Johnny Manziel has recently been sidelined with some elbow soreness, meaning that Josh McCown will more than likely be the man under center when the Browns take the field for Week 1 action.

Still, with the veteran McCown having his down moments here and there, plus the uncertainty surrounding Manziel at all times, the Browns quarterback picture isn’t exactly crystal clear. There’s a chance that neither of these players are the franchise going forward.

But, are the Browns already looking to rectify this problem? And are they looking to take care of this by already doing their research on a certain Michigan State quarterback?

Connor Cook’s high school coach, Gerry Rardin, appeared on CBS Wednesday and he revealed that the team visited him earlier this month to discuss Cook. He also stated that, in all his years at Walsh Jesuit High School, it was the first time they came to talk to him about a player.

“They feel like Connor is going to be one of the more important guys in the draft, for sure,” Rardin said, via NFL.com.

Cook could have made his way out into the draft following last year, where he could have been a first-round pick potentially. After Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, the QB class was not all that deep. However, he decided to stay one more season at Michigan State to chase the national championship that has eluded him and the Spartans over the last couple seasons.

While we still have a whole season of football to get through, this will certainly be something to watch develop as time goes on. Should Cook stay healthy and perform at a high, winning level once again, and if the Browns struggle under center once again, Cook may very well be the next quarterback project in Cleveland come 2016.
