The Green Bay Packers already have one elite receiver out for the season. It looks like they won’t have to be making it two. After losing All-Pro receiver Jordy Nelson to a torn ACL in Week 2 of the National Football League preseason, Randall Cobb was forced to leave Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles after landing hard on his shoulder.

Cobb did not return and there was some speculation that he broke his collarbone. However, Cobb has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint and could return for Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. For Cobb, he has two weeks to heal up before the contest against Chicago, giving him ample time to get treatment.

"“I just caught the ball and was going down to the ground, and I had a guy land on top of me,” Cobb said after the game. “I was just jogging off the field at the end of the series, and I could feel the pain. I didn’t know exactly what it was. It was discomfort, and I let Doc check it out and we went back and got X-rays. It’s not what we think it could’ve been.”"

If Cobb had sustained a serious injury, the Packers would be in dire straits. Even with Aaron Rodgers leading the charge at quarterback, the MVP would have been looking at a starting receiver duo of second-year man DeVante Adams and Jeff Janis, who had two catches in his rookie season last year. Instead, it appears Cobb and Adams will be the combination going forward.

Cobb was expected to leave Green Bay via free agency this offseason, but signed just before the start of the free agency period. Cobb stayed on a four-year deal worth $40 million, showing general manager Ted Thompson’s commitment to the former second-round pick from the University of Kentucky.
