Keys to Victory

LSU:

The only way the LSU Tigers will not win this game is if they beat themselves. Their offense has enough firepower to lead by five touchdowns at the half if quarterback Brandon Harris protects the ball. Inexperienced underclassmen will be seeing significant playing time on defense, and veteran leaders like linebacker Kendell Beckwith and cornerback Tre’Davious White will need to set the tone.

LSU’s talent on both sides of the ball is so much better than McNeese State’s, that all they have to do is not make a ton of mistakes and they will win in a blowout.

McNeese State:

Daniel Sams will need to carry his team on his shoulders if McNeese State is going to have a chance. Sams is a talented veteran quarterback that can beat opponents through the air and with his legs. Controlling the football will be crucial as well. The Cowboys cannot afford to get into a shootout with LSU, and their defense will need to deliver a legendary performance to keep this game within reach.

Prediction

Saturday night should be nothing more than a warm up game for LSU. The Tigers are a dark horse national title contender. McNeese State is an FCS team that barely finished the 2014 season with a winning record. Leonard Fournette will run all over the Cowboys’ defense, and LSU’s talented receiving corps will torch their secondary.

Daniel Sams is a veteran quarterback with FBS experience from his time at Kansas State, but he will not make enough of a difference to keep this game close. The Tigers win in a blowout, with their backups playing the majority of the second half.

Final Score: LSU 45, McNeese State 10
