No. 14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

When Malik Zaire went down with an ankle fracture against Virginia last week, the national title hopes of hundreds of thousands of Fighting Irish fans seemed to burst into flames. Then, sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer came in to save the day.

The backup quarterback finished the game 8-of-13 with 92 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winning 39-yard touchdown pass, off his back foot, to junior wide out Will Fuller with 12 ticks left on the clock. He then completed a two-point conversion to lead the Irish to a 34-27 victory.

All hope is not lost as the young quarterback has all the talent in the world, he just needs to gain confidence, and Fuller can help him do so. Notre Dame’s defense, like always, is solid, but the secondary could use some improvement.

Luckily for the Irish, or unluckily if you look at it the other way, Georgia Tech doesn’t pass the ball too often. The Irish allow under 100 yards per game on the ground, but that will surely change against Paul Johnson’s Yellow Jackets as they average about 458 yards rushing per contest this season — the most in the country.

Outscoring its two opponents 134-16, Georgia Tech has been an absolute juggernaut in the run game and it’s led by freshman running back Marcus Marshall, senior running back Patrick Skov and junior quarterback Justin Thomas.

Thomas has attempted just 13 passes this season, completing 10 of them for 151 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 73 yards and two scores. Marshall and Skov top the team as the only two backs with over 100 yards on the ground, combining for 343 yards and six touchdowns on just 37 carries.
