No. 3 Ole Miss traveled to No. 25 Florida for a Top 25 matchup, but the Gators played more like the No. 3 team in the country.

Coming into the game, No. 3 Ole Miss was the overwhelming favorite to defeat the No. 25 Florida Gators and leave The Swamp 5-0 and possibly even move up in the AP poll. However, Florida got off to a scorching-hot start and took a 25-0 lead into halftime behind Will Grier’s four touchdown passes — tying the record for touchdown passes in a half for the Gators.

Ole Miss came out in the second half and rode Chad Kelly’s arm to a drive of over eight minutes, ending in a field goal to give the Rebels some hope, but it ultimately wasn’t enough.

Florida finished the game strong and blew out the No. 3 team in the nation, showing that its 4-0 start wasn’t just a fluke. The Gators are looking like a completely new team under head coach Jim McElwain.

This was a tough game for Ole Miss’ first-year quarterback Chad Kelly as he will be going into the heart of SEC play with a tough road loss already under his belt. This game just goes to show how unpredictable college football really is.

Three stars

Will Grier led the way for the Gators, passing for 271 yards and four touchdowns on 24-of-29 completions.

Demarcus Robinson was catching anything thrown his way for Florida. He finished with eight catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Lastly, Brandon Powell only had one reception, but it was a big one, taking a short pass 77 yards to the end zone for possible the play of the game.

Highlights

Odds

Ole Miss was a 7.5-point favorite and the over/under was 51, so if you picked the Rebels to come in and take care of business, you are out of luck. Also, the total of points scored was just 48, so hopefully you picked the under.

Next week

Fortunately for Ole Miss, the Rebels have a nice non-conference game against New Mexico State which has no ultimate effect on the SEC race. They will need a week off, of sorts.

Florida will travel to face a struggling Missouri squad which seems to be fighting to put together any type of impressive win this year. This is the type of game Florida will need to win if it plans to progress any further.
