Not many people, outside of Las Vegas, gave the USC Trojans much of a shot to beat No. 3 Utah in this one.

Remember when people were calling the USC Trojans a joke of a pick to beat the Utah Utes this week after being named three-point favorites by Vegas? Yeah, well the Trojans just pulled a mammoth upset, blowing out the Utes by a final score of

Utah was the overwhelming favorite in this one, but the Trojans took out all of the anger and frustration of an off-field mess early in the season on the unsuspecting Utes. Was Utah just overrated, is the Pac-12 not that good or are the Trojans just better than we thought?

It’s still difficult to tell how good or bad these teams are, but it seems as if the Trojans, especially Cody Kessler, are ready to put this poor streak of three losses in four games behind them and look ahead to bigger and better things.

As for Utah, the hunt for the College Football Playoff isn’t over, it has just merely taken a big hit and it will take winning out to make the Utes serious contenders again.

Three Stars

Cameron Smith was an absolute stud on defense for the Trojans in this one, intercepting three passes and bringing one back for a touchdown to make the score 28-14.

Cody Kessler put his previous poor starts behind him, completing 21-of-28 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown, looking like his old self.

No shocker here, JuJu Smith-Schuster had yet another solid game catching the ball. He had eight receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown.

Odds

The Trojans were surprisingly three-point favorites coming into this one and the over/under was 57 points. It looks like Vegas was smart, and you are, too, if you picked the Trojans as well as the over. USC won 42-24, beating the spread by a wide margin.

Next Week

Utah will have a nice game to rebound at home against Oregon State next week. The Utes will look to keep their Pac-12 title hopes alive as well as College Football Playoff aspirations.

The Trojans will travel a little north to play Cal next week and this will be a big road test for USC. If this team is for real, it will take out a team like Cal with an elite quarterback like Jared Goff. College Football Playoff is out of the question, but respect is not.
