Karl-Anthony Towns blocking Emmanuel Mudiay was rookie-on-rookie violence

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets collided on Friday night with their respective lottery picks also facing off in Karl-Anthony Towns and Emmanuel Mudiay. Though Towns occupies the frontcourt and Mudiay the backcourt, it didn’t take long on Friday night for the two to get well acquainted with one another.

Early in the first quarter, Mudiay got a head full of steam and tried to attack the rim. However, Towns was streaking to protect the rim and met Mudiay’s shot attempt at its peak before swatting away with authority:

If Mudiay hadn’t already proven to be one of the most fearless rookies in the league this season, you’d think he’d avoid trying Towns in that type of situation again anytime soon. On the part of Towns, it’s plays where he shows off his awareness and athleticism that makes you realize why he was clearly the number one pick in this year’s draft.

Though they won’t be on the floor facing off and showing up one another every night, you have to imagine that we are going to be seeing highlights from these two players for many years to come. Maybe Mudiay can find himself on the positive end of some of those highlights as well.
