No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys vs Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been one of the bigger surprises in college football through the first two-thirds of the season. Still unbeaten, the Cowboys are looking to grab a big road win this week at Jones AT&T Stadium against Texas Tech.

Sophomore quarterback Mason Rudolph has been great this season, despite his seven interceptions, passing for 2,197 yards and 10 touchdowns and completing about 65 percent of his passes. The Cowboys have won their first two road conference games by a total of 10 points, but playing a close one with Texas Tech might be a poor idea.

The Red Raiders have one of the best offenses in the conference led by sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The second-year starter has passed for 2,851 yards and 21 touchdowns, but just like Rudolph, Mahomes needs to protect the ball better as he’s thrown 10 picks.

This game will be much closer than people think, so don’t be shocked if the Red Raiders spell upset on Saturday afternoon.

Keys to Victory

Oklahoma State Cowboys

Mason Rudolph needs to make sure the Cowboys win the turnover war. Oklahoma State has played a number of close games this year, but the Cowboys really know how to win and that’s a trait that will come in handy during tough road games like this one.

You can’t really count on the run game for Oklahoma State, so if Rudolph throws for near 300 yards and the defense can cause some Mahomes turnovers, it will help the Cowboys remain unbeaten through nine weeks of play.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Again, just like Oklahoma State, Mahomes needs to pass the ball well and make sure to avoid any silly mistakes. These two teams are nearly the same on offense in terms of a solid pass game but DeAndre Washington has added a new element to the Red Raiders’ game.

The senior running back will need to get the job done on the ground for Texas Tech to have success. The passing attack is predictable, and why not rely on a guy who averages 6.7 yards per carry this season? Get the ball in the hands of Washington.

Prediction

Oklahoma State is going to have its hands full in this one and the Red Raiders have played a couple of close games against ranked opponents this season. Patrick Mahomes will go off for over 300 yards and four touchdown passes and despite throwing two picks, the Red Raiders will hand the Cowboys their first loss of the year. Hard to pick against the Cowboys, but this is the time of year in which upsets like this happen casually.

Final Score: Oklahoma State 34, Texas Tech 38
