Ben Zobrist: 3 Best Fantasy Free Agent Landing Spots

The human Swiss army knife, Ben Zobrist, enters free agency for the first time in his ten-year career and even though he is 34 years old, suitors will be lining up for his services. Zobrist’s fantasy production has been dipping the last few seasons but if he could land in a preferable landing spot he could raise his value again.

As we all know Zobrist’s biggest skill set is that he offers multi position eligibility. In 2015, he played all across the diamond again having started at second base, all over the outfield and even three games at third base. With that said, here are his three best potential fantasy landing spots in 2016.

New York Yankees

For the Yanks he could step in right away and be an upgrade at second base and his versatility could be nice addition to a pretty non flexible roster. The Yankees may not aggressively target him as they seemed poised to go with a platoon of Rob Refsnyder and Dustin Ackley at second base next season, but it is safe to say that neither of those options is a proven commodity at this point.

Add in his switch hitting ability and Zobrist could see a big boost fantasy wise as we would be able to take advantage of the AL East ballparks again. Realistically, he could challenge meeting the 20 homer run mark again by signing in the Bronx, and any spot in the order he would fill in at would help his counting stats. If lands in New York, bump him up your second base rankings.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Zobrist could fill in both the holes at second base and left field for the Angels, as they got barely any production from either spot in 2015. Zobrist could slot in right at the top of the order as well in front of Mike Trout where he could use his on base prowess to boost his counting stats.

The Angels almost make too much sense of a fit for them not to target him aggressively this season, so I expect them to be big players in pursuing him. The move to the Angles stadium would not serve as the biggest support of his overall numbers, but his offensive skill set would fit in well with the Angels lineup’s makeup. If he lands here, target him around the same rounds that you would normally do.

Baltimore Orioles

The O’s could be one of the dark horse teams in the Zobrist pursuit, as he could definitely fill the gaping hole they have in both corner outfield positions. With the impending loss of Chris Davis, the Orioles could be hard pressed to find offense from wherever they can. Zobrist may certainly not be the long-term solution that O’s fans want, but it would surely be some semblance of help.

Moving to Camden Yards would certainly help his power production, so there would be a value bump if he can find his way to Baltimore. If he can land here, move him up your second base rankings to right about where you would if he landed in New York.
