Devonta Freeman scored on the Atlanta Falcons’ first drive of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars for his 10th rushing touchdown of 2015.
The Atlanta Falcons marched down the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars convincingly on their first drive of Week 15, capped off by a five-yard sweep to running back Devonta Freeman. Freeman ran to the right side and managed to touch the pylon with the football to get his 10th rushing touchdown of 2015, which leads the NFL.
Atlanta was held out of the end zone in Week 14 against NFC South rival Carolina Panthers, losing 38-0. It was the first time that the Falcons had been shutout since 2004. Luckily for the Falcons they ended their scoring drought early with Freeman’s touchdown.
The Falcons were able to run the ball well in their opening drive, allowing struggling quarterback Matt Ryan to run a believable play-action fake, often going into a bootleg. It was Ryan’s passing that allowed Atlanta to execute its best offensive drive in weeks. Ryan had all the time in the world to deliver strikes to Julio Jones, Roddy White and Freeman.
Freeman’s touchdown was his first rushing touchdown since Week 6 versus the New Orleans Saints. Surprisingly, he has held on to the league lead without running it in for six in over two months. Though Atlanta is likely not going to make the NFC Playoffs, Freeman is one of a handful of Falcons that could wide up playing in the Pro Bowl at the end of the season. The offense seems to hum when Freeman can get into the end zone, so this may bode well for Atlanta down the stretch in 2015.
