According to Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, Liverpool had a €30 million bid for Inter striker Mauro Icardi rejected.
Inter started off the campaign in stellar form, and they entered 2016 atop of the Serie A table. Things quickly changed though with the club winning just one league game in the new year, and currently sit fifth as a result.
With the club’s latest loss coming against rivals, AC Milan, on Sunday, numerous reports began emerging that the team’s star striker, Mauro Icardi and head coach Roberto Mancini, have had a falling out. The two have reportedly not been seeing eye-to-eye as of late, and Icardi did not start in the derby against Milan.
According to a report from Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, Liverpool were looking to take advantage of the issues at the San Siro and offered €30 million for Icardi. They were quickly shut down though. The newspaper claims that Inter would have considered the bid, but with the transfer window quickly coming to a close, they knew they wouldn’t be able to find a suitable replacement.
Liverpool could have used the 22-year-old in their lineup Tuesday against Leicester City, losing 2-0 as a result of a
. They now sit eighth in the Premier League table, with 34 points from 24 matches. They will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday, when they host Sunderland on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.
Inter return to action on Wednesday, as they host Chievo Verona in an attempt to win their first league game since January 6th.
