The joyous college basketball event affectionately and widely known in the sports world as March Madness is finally right around the corner with only a couple of weeks before the start of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. However, the conference tournaments have to play out to determine the automatic bids before the March Madness can commence, one of the first of which to get started is the 2016 Southern Conference Tournament.

The race in the Southern Conference in the regular season really only came down to two teams vying for the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the regular season title. Before even playing their final game of the season, though, the Chattanooga Mocs were able to edge out the East Tennessee State Buccaneers for the top spot in the Southern Conference Tournament.

It appears like either the Mocs or the Buccaneers are almost surely going to walk out of the Southern Conference Tournament and into the Big Dance, but teams such as the No. 3 Furman Paladins or even a dark horse like the No. 7 Mercer Bears could go on a run through the conference tournament to earn the automatic bid.
