How many wins does UConn Huskies women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma have in his career?

The field and the bracket for the 2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament will be announced on Monday night and, without question, the UConn Huskies will again be the No. 1-overall seed in the field after yet another undefeated regular season. The players may change, but UConn’s dominance over women’s college basketball remains the same. Obviously that’s a huge testament to the job that head coach Geno Auriemma has done with the program.

Geno Auriemma took over the UConn Huskies head-coaching job ahead of the 1985-86 season—just two years after they became a Division I program—and it didn’t take him long to start turning things around after the team went 12-15 in his first season. They made the tournament in just his fourth season and have made it in every year since.

Also since then, UConn has became the perennial goliath that every team in women’s college basketball is trying to topple every season. The Huskies have won 10 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships under the tutelage of Geno Auriemma, including the last three.

Almost more impressive than the national titles is the fact that UConn under Auriemma has also completed five seasons with an undefeated run to the national title, along with a chance to do that again in the 2015-16 season. With all of this success, though, that begs the question of how many wins Auriemma has in his career.

Prior to the 2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament, Auriemma has 949 wins over his head-coaching career at UConn, which is fifth all time as he’s still chasing the legendary Pat Summitt. If he keeps at this pace, though, he might just get there.
