Derrick Rose: Fantasy Basketball Update

Derrick Rose has been a pretty unreliable fantasy basketball option as of late. I suppose if the truth was told that you could say that he has been pretty unreliable this entire season. He has certainly had his ups and downs, but it seems that whenever he starts to play well his body winds up overtaxed.

Currently on the season Rose has averages of 16.7 points and 4.9 assists per game. Rose also chips in 3.5 rebounds, .6 steals, and .6 three-pointers a game. Those are really decent numbers, but the kicker is that he misses so many games that it makes it very uncertain as to when you can count on him. That sort of thing will kill you in a head-to-head league and will not help very much in any league.

Derrick Rose is becoming sort of a tough guy to own despite the fact that he has been playing well. He seems to be regaining his explosiveness and ability to get to the basket while getting over the mental limitations that have hindered him. Now while I say that he has been a tough guy to own I am not dismissing him in fantasy leagues. I especially will likely continue to find a spot for him in my daily leagues after some missed time when his price is low.

I will also possibly own Derrick Rose in the future in regular season fantasy leagues as well. Of course whether I own him or not will be dependent upon what round he is being drafted at. Rose will almost always be likely to be drafted ahead of his actual value so that could make him a tough guy to draft and own, but trading for him while he is sitting out or in a poor stretch could be fairly easy to do.

Derrick Rose is guaranteed through the 2016-2017 season and there have been some rumors that have flown around that the Bulls would consider trading the former MVP. I find that to be highly unlikely as the Bulls have been pretty slow to pull the trigger on trades.

However I have a feeling that Rose could find more value somewhere other than in a Bulls uniform. Unfortunately that pains me to admit being a big Bulls fan, but with the emergence of Jimmy Butler and the winds of change blowing this franchise all but seems to have Butler’s name written all over it.

As for what I would do with Rose on my fantasy basketball teams is I would just stand pat and hope he gets better. If he can avoid injuries I hope that he has the ability to strengthen himself and avoid sitting out of games. I would not over value him in a trade scenario as I think he has the talent to put up better numbers, but I just don’t think he has the strength to be a consistent top fantasy player.
