Indiana outlasted Kentucky in the Second Round of March Madness to advance to the Sweet 16

With two of most historic and successful programs in the history of college basketball squaring off in the Second Round of March Madness, the matchup on Saturday between the Indiana Hoosiers and Kentucky Wildcats was always going to be one of the most entertaining of the day. From start to finish, the Wildcats and Hoosiers had no problem delivering on that as they took the stage in Des Moines.

Indiana star point guard Yogi Ferrell struggled in a major way in the first half, unable to get his shot going. Moreover, the Hoosier met a bit of adversity as Patrick Robinson went down with an ankle injury in the first half and then they lost forward Juwan Morgan in the second half to a shoulder injury. Even still, the Hoosiers wouldn’t die as they played tremendous defense and got big contributions from Troy Williams on the wing.

Despite the stellar play from Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray in the backcourt, including Ulis simply not letting Kentucky die at the end of the game when the Wildcats could have just rolled over, they simply couldn’t overcome Indiana once the Hoosiers were able to build a lead in the second half once Ferrell got going. It was even closer than the score might indicate between these two historic programs, but it’s the Hoosiers going to the Sweet 16.

Three Stars

Yogi Ferrell – 18 points, five rebounds, four assists
