Bartolo Colon may be the most beloved player in the game, and his stellar performance this season for the New York Mets surely helps.

There may be no other player in MLB that gets more love and admiration than Bartolo Colon. Whether it be his robust frame, or fact that he is still getting it done at the age of 42, he is an absolute marvel. The Mets rotation is headlined by big names and huge arms, but Colon’s steadiness this season should not be ignored by fantasy owners.

Colon’s career has been well documented for its ups and downs, but he still maintains the uncanny ability to artfully paint the corners. Even though he largely throws one pitch, his command sets him apart and has been the driving force behind his success with the Mets.

He is still widely available across most fantasy formats even though he has been one of the more consistent hurlers early this season. Over his six starts, he has not surrendered more than 3 ER in any start, has only walked four on the season, and averages five strikeouts per start. His last two outings have been especially sharp, as he limited the Braves and Padres to only 3 ER over 14.2 IP.

Bart may lack the strikeout output that fantasy owners seek out, but the WHIP and ERA help he offers is a great addition to the backend of any fantasy rotation. With Zack Wheeler still slated to return in July and the recent news that Steven Matz is battling forearm issues, Colon appears to have plenty of chances to offer solid fantasy production for the foreseeable future.

Next: Aroldis Chapman: Back in the Bronx

Bartolo Colon’s next start comes against the Dodgers on May 12 in Los Angeles, and the way he has been pitching lately, he can be added and inserted. He has gotten off to fast starts the last few seasons, ultimately slowing during the second half, but fantasy owners should not scoff had riding him while he is hot and pitching well. Make the move and add the G.O.A.T.
