After a lackluster past two seasons for Aaron Hill, he appears to be back to his old form. Can he maintain this pace the rest of the season?

Milwaukee Brewers utility man Aaron Hill has put up respectable numbers throughout his 12-year MLB career thus far. The past two seasons however, he has been nothing more than a bench player or free agent in most cases for fantasy owners. This season, Hill has been on a comeback so far through the first two months of the season.

Will he keep it up, or will the now 34-year-old return back to mediocre form as the season continues?

More from Fantasy Baseball

When I started playing fantasy baseball, Aaron Hill was one of the top fantasy second baseman the MLB had to offer. I wanted him on my team the next year. However, after the 2012 season his stats began to decline.

He probably wasn’t even picked up the past two seasons. His productive fantasy seasons appeared to be behind him. In that time, he only had a .238 batting average with 16 home runs and 99 RBI, which was uncharacteristic for the second baseman.

Here in 2016 however, fantasy owners have seen a resurgence. Everything is improving for Hill at the moment. He currently holds .283 average with six home runs and 20 RBI in 47 games played. He has been healthy so far in 2016  which is a positive sign for him. He has missed a large number of games the past two seasons due to injury, which certainly could have played a role in his lack of production during that span.

Hill was also traded during the off-season from Arizona to Milwaukee for fellow middle infielder, Jean Segura essentially. A trade which has both players off to better starts than they have seen in previous seasons. Being traded is often what many players need in order to snap out of an ongoing slump. Perhaps it is the change in scenery helping out Hill.

Can he keep up this current pace, or is he just off to a hot start in 2016? He already has 41 hits, which is impressive, especially after what we have seen the past few seasons. Hill is in the top 15 currently for both fantasy second baseman and third baseman.

Much of Hill’s production has come in the span of two games. In those games, he has hit five home runs. The rest of them, only one, which is the pure definition of a streaky hitter.

Aaron Hill however, has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games played. Among other things, his on base percentage is up way higher than his past two seasons. He also has both a second base and a third base tag this season as the Brewers like to move him around the infield. This ups his value because fantasy owners too, can mix and match the utility man.

I don’t think Aaron Hill can keep up this current pace. As the Brewers begin to fall further and further behind in the standings in the NL Central, his stats and confidence will begin to decline. He has shown promise though this season, so if you have an opening on your team, he can be worth a shot since he is only owned in 12.6% of leagues.

However, I don’t think he will hold too much value for fantasy owners out there.
