Recent MLB Rumors suggest that the San Francisco Giants are in talks with the Milwaukee Brewers about OF Ryan Braun.

The 38-26 San Francisco Giants are performing well, but MLB Rumors suggest they are looking to add a little punch to their lineup. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Giants have held talks with the Milwaukee Brewers about outfielder Ryan Braun.

While Nightengale calls the talks “preliminary” and there is “nothing imminent,” they have an obvious need for an outfielder and a middle-of-the-order bat. Braun may not be as dominant as he once was, but he could fill those roles well for the Giants.

The 32-year-old Braun is having a bit of a resurgence in 2016, hitting .316/.378/.541 on the year. However, he is of little use to the 30-33 Brewers, who are clearly on the rebuilding track.

The Brewers would love to trade Braun away, and his great performance will help them move him prior to the deadline. However, Braun’s contract makes him less appealing than it would seem on the surface.

More from Milwaukee Brewers

Even after Braun makes $20 million for 2016, he is still owed $91 million over the next five years on his contract. That is quite the commitment for a 32-year-old, even one who has a successful past and has performed well this season.

Braun is great, and if the Giants are willing to take on his full contract, they might not have to give much up in return. However, if the Brewers are willing to pick up some of Braun’s hefty contract, the Giants could rewards them with a few strong prospects to help the rebuild in Milwaukee.

Regardless, it is going to be interesting to see if this rumor has any traction. Braun to San Francisco would certainly make sense for both sides, but that is a lot of money to take on.
