DraftKings MLB picks for June 21

We have a full 15 game slate tonight, so that leaves us plenty of options, and plenty of places to separate our lineup from the pack. Where are the best places? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Aaron Nola has never faced the Twins. You also don’t need me to tell you that the Twins struggle against good righties. Nola has given up 12 runs in his last two starts (10 earned), but his chances or righting the ship here are very good.

Tyler Duffey has never faced the Phillies. This looks like a good matchup, but it is hard to trust a 5.56 season ERA.

Blake Snell gave up five runs against Seattle on Thursday, but only one was earned. He has never faced Cleveland, so he provides an interesting play here. He had a high strikeout rate in the minors, but he has also struggled with walks, and he is facing Kluber. Don’t expect a miracle, but Snell could provide solid numbers for his $6,700 price.

Colby Lewis is 6-0 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP this year. The Reds are a combined 4-7 with three RBI (all by Brandon Phillips) against him. Which side do you choose?

Tyler Wilson has never faced the Padres, but if you want to gamble on him, this is a great place to do it. The Padres still have one of the worst offenses in the league despite scoring five or more runs in four straight games.

Luis Perdomo, owner of a 8.79 ERA, has never faced the Orioles. If you use him, you are just donating to the winners. This has a zero percent chance of ending well.

Anthony DeSclafani has never faced the Rangers before, and he has given up only two runs in two starts this year. The bad news? He hasn’t gone deep into a game because of his inflated 2.31 WHIP. That suggests an adjustment is coming, possibly against a pretty good Rangers team.

Best Bets:

Noah Syndergaard ($12,900): Thor was brilliant against the Royals on Opening Night, throwing six scoreless innings. He gave up only three hits and a walk to go with his nine strikeouts. He was also the only Met to beat the Royals during the World Series last year. He allowed three runs on in six innings in that one, but still struck out six. He has a proven track record against the Champs.

Corey Kluber ($11,600): Kluber has pitched very well against the Rays so far in his career. The Rays are only hitting .219 against him in 96 at bats with two homers, seven runs, and a whopping 29 strikeouts. Kluber’s 4.23 ERA on the year leaves something to be desired, but his 1.07 WHIP suggests that he has been the victim of some bad luck. At any rate, he should be in the running for top scorer tonight.

Honorable Mention:

Tanner Roark ($8,800): It is a small sample, but Roark has absolutely dominated the Dodgers so far. The Boys in Blue are just 4-31(.129) against Roark with a solo homer, the only extra base hit, and seven strikeouts. The homer was by Adrian Gonzalez in his only at bat against Roark so far. These are elite numbers. Can he do it over a full game?

James Paxton ($8,100): The current Tigers are only 5-25 against James Paxton with three runs. The bad news? They have only struck out three times. Paxton has shown the ability to rack up a few strikeouts, but it may not happen here. His matchup against Justin Verlander wont be an easy one either, but considering Verlander’s history against Seattle, Paxton a least has a puncher’s chance. Especially with those past numbers.

Dark Horses:

Hector Santiago ($5,900): Santiago dominated the Twins in his last start, and tonight he gets a similar team in the Astros. The difference is that Santiago has stellar career stats against Houston. They are hitting just .170 off of Santiago in 94 at bats with only two homers, five runs, and 20 strikeouts. No Astro has managed to hit him well. Santiago should score well above his cost tonight.

Clay Buchholz ($4,900): Buchholz was exiled to the bullpen earlier this month, but he has done well enough from the pen to earn another start. It just happens to come against a team that is hitting only .214 against him in 154 at bats with three homers, 13 runs, and 25 strikeouts. He is facing Chris Sale and the strikeout total is low, but this is a large sample size for those of you looking to gamble a bit.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The Mets beat Ian Kennedy like a rented mule when he was in the National League. Asdrubal Cabrera ($3,300) is 3-5 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Kennedy. Curtis Granderson ($4,300) is 5-12(.417) with three walks, a homer, and three RBI. James Loney ($2,800) is 7-16(.438) with a walk, four doubles, a homer, and three driven in off Kennedy. Neil Walker ($3,400) is 9-21(.429) with a double, three homers, and nine RBI off Kennedy. Hey, at least he doesn’t have to face David Wright!

Xander Bogaerts ($5,300) has had success against Chris Sale. Bogaerts is 5-10 with a walk and a solo homer. Mookie Betts ($4,900) is 3-7 with two doubles. David Ortiz ($4,300) is 5-13(.385) with a double and two RBI against Sale.

The Braves have actually hit Jose Fernandez well. Freddie Freeman ($3,700) is 5-15 with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Nick Markakis ($2,600) is 2-5 with a solo homer. Even A.J. Pierzynski ($2,000) is 2-4 with a walk and a RBI.

It’s hard to recommend anyone against Johnny Cueto with the way he has pitched this year, but this is based on past stats, after all. David Freese ($3,100) is only 4-18(.222), but he has a walk, a double, and four RBI. Josh Harrison ($2,500) is 7-21 with three doubles, a homer, and three RBI off Cueto. Matt Joyce ($2,600) is2-6 with a walk and a solo homer. Andrew McCutchen ($2,900) is 18-62(.290) with six walks, four doubles, a triple, four homers, and six RBI against Cueto. Whatever you do, don’t use Starling Marte.  Marte is just 1-23(.043) with eight strikeouts against Cueto.

The Mariners have managed to hit Justin Verlander pretty well. Nori Aoki ($2,600) is only 4-14(.286) against Verlander, but he has five walks and three RBI. Nelson Cruz ($3,400) is only 5-25, ub the has a walk, a double, a homer, and five RBI. Franklin Gutierrez ($3,000) is 10-38(.263) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and six RBI off Verlander. Adam Lind ($3,200) is only 5-20, but he has two walks, two homers, and seven RBI. Kyle Seager ($3,600) is 5-9 with a walk, three doubles, a homer, and five RBI off Verlander. Seth Smith ($2,900) is a modest 3-12, but he has six walks to go with his solo homer.

Jason Hammel‘s ERA is over two runs under his career mark of 4.37. It may endure an adjustment today. The Cardinals are hitting .293 off of him in 150 at bats, so you know there is stack material in here. Matt Adams ($3,500) is 5-11(.455) with a walk, three doubles, and a RBI. Matt Holliday ($3,600) is 5-16(.313) with two walks and three doubles. Yadier Molina ($2,900) is 7-16(.438) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, and three RBI against Hammel. Johnny Peralta ($3,800) has hit Hammel hard. Peralta is 9-23(.391) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and eight RBI against him.

Jayson Werth ($4,300) is 3-4 with a walk and a solo homer off of Scott Kazmir. Ryan Zimmerman ($3,900) is perfect against Kazmir with a walk and a solo homer.

Evan Longoria ($3,900) is 6-16(.375) with two walks, a homer, and three RBI against Corey Kluber.

Miguel Montero ($3,000) is 7-21 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI against Adam Wainwright. Anthony Rizzo ($5,200) is 10-33(.303) with two walks, a double, a homer, and four driven in.

Chris Carter ($3,600) is 2-9 with a walk, a homer, and four RBI against Sonny Gray from his days with the Astros.

Nolan Arenado ($4,600) is 2-3 with a homer and three RBI off of Ivan Nova already. There is likely more where that came from.

Justin Bour ($3,700) is perfect with a walk, a single, a homer, and two RBI in his game against Bud Norris. Adeiny Hechavarria ($3,000) hit a solo homer off of him in his three at bats.

Albert Pujols ($3,300) is 6-17(.353) with three walks, a homer, and four RBI against Collin McHugh. Mike Trout ($4,700) is only 2-11, but he has a homer and two RBI.

Wellington Castillo ($2,900) has punished Marco Estrada. Castillo is 7-23(.304) with a walk, four homers, and eight RBI against him. Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Owings have also taken Estrada out of the park once in three at bats.
