Scooter Gennett has been on a tear at the plate for the Milwaukee Brewers. Should fantasy owners take a chance on him off the waiver wire?

The Milwaukee Brewers are in the midst of a rebuild, but they have plenty of intriguing fantasy pieces. While guys like Ryan Braun, and Jonathan Lucroy rightfully get most of the fantasy love, could Scooter Gennett be a solid add for fantasy owners moving forward?

Gennett has never been a top prospect, nor has made huge waves in fantasy circles, but he has proven to be a solid MI contributor. He is a career .285 hitter, and while not supplying much power, he has a gap to gap stroke that plays well.

He really established himself as a major leaguer in 2014, where he was able to post a, .289/9 HR/54 RBI/6 SB/.754 OPS, line over 440 at bats. It is not a staggering offensive line, but a nice addition from a MI spot in fantasy lineups.

Unfortunately in 2015, Gennett struggled with injuries, and general inconsistency. Things in 2016 did not start as well either, as he struggled mightily the first two months of the season. But, so far in June, he looks like the player that emerged in 2014.

So far this season, he has posted a, .275/7 HR/20 RBI/3 SB/.789 OPS, line. Over the last 14 days he has especially been on a roll, batting .373, homering three times, while knocking in eight RBI. He has been on a tear, and his recent success can be tied to the increase in his line drive and Hard contact rate, both of which have risen by 2% compared to last season.

Miller Park is still a great place to hit and the Brewers’ lineup is better than most people think. With Gennett batting at the top of the lineup, he offers ample counting stat potential as well. Fantasy owners should look at him as a quality waiver wire add, as he can offer solid weekly production from an otherwise weak fantasy position.
