Cam Bedrosian has been one of the few bright spots for the Los Angeles Angels this season. With a floundering bullpen, fantasy owners should have him well on their radar.

The Los Angeles Angels have been downright dreadful this season, and things do not seem to be getting any better. Between the injury depleted rotation, terrible bullpen, and sputtering offense, the future looks bleak without a full on roster overhaul.

Cam Bedrosian was a 1st round pick for the Angels in 2010, but never developed into three starter that the team hoped for. He would eventually be transitioned to the bullpen, ironically following in his father’s footsteps. His father, Steve, was a dominant bullpen arm in the late 80’s and even won the Cy Young award in 1987 with the Phillies.

Bedrosian made his debut with the Angels in 2014, and things did not go smoothly. He posted a 6.52 ERA that season, and unfortunately followed that up, with an ugly 5.40 ERA in 2015. But so far this season, things have turned vastly for the better.

More from Fantasy Baseball

In 2016, he has posted a, 1.29 ERA/29 K/8 BB/1.10 WHIP line, over 32 appearances. He has not given up a run the entire month of June, obviously making him the hottest bullpen arm for the Halos. Now for most fantasy owners, a middle to late inning relief arm hardly garners our attention. But, with Huston Street struggling all season and even performing worse as of late, Bedrosian all of a sudden becomes a player worth monitoring.

Huston Street is no stranger to the DL and has spent time there already this season with an oblique injury. Outside of his unsightly 5.28 ERA in 2016, he has surrendered 8 ER over his last six appearances as well. His velocity is at a career worse, and his slider just does not have the same movement it once did.

The Angels are going to continue to struggle all season, so Save chances are obviously not going to be numerous, but eventually a move to go away from Street will have to be made. Usually, Joe Smith has been the main set up man for the Angels, but he is battling a hamstring injury and will be a popular name in trade rumors later this month, furthering opening the door Bedrosian.

Cam Bedrosian has made marquee improvements with his consistency on the mound, and it seems that he is finally honing his electric stuff. He features a mid-90s fastball and hard breaking slider, a solid enough arsenal to close out games this season.

Cam Bedrosian may not be a recommended waiver wire addition yet, but astute fantasy owners will have to continue to watch his progress. He should eventually work his way into the closing role and with the fantasy playoffs methodically moving closer and closer, he could turn into a difference maker down the stretch. Do not sleep on him.
