Yasiel Puig’s agent released a statement that implies that the Dodgers outfielder could be demoted as soon as Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers left for Denver to play the Colorado Rockies on Monday without Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig. Puig’s tenure with the Dodgers has been rocky at best and almost surreal at worst. But why did the Dodgers leave Puig behind? Did they actually tell him that he would either be traded or demoted down to the minors? Adam Kratz, Puig’s agent, opened up about the subject.

The biggest thing to take away from this is that Puig could be demoted as soon as Tuesday. Puig still has options, so it’s likely that he won’t have to hit the August trade waivers. If he does hit the trade waivers, that all but limits the Dodgers to trading him to one team since at least one team will claim him and therefore, force the Dodgers to be limited to negotiating with just them.

All of this has happened because the Dodgers traded for Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick. Joc Pederson and Howie Kendrick currently occupy center field and left field respectively. Reddick is expected to take over in right field, leaving Puig without a spot on the Dodgers’ 25 man roster.

Puig is under team control through the 2019 season. However, it’s quite likely that he has played his last game for the Dodgers.
