The Dodgers trade for Josh Reddick and Rich Hill. What are the fantasy impacts of this deal?

The Dodgers beefed up right field and strengthened their rotation right before the deadline this year. Will it be enough to propel them into the post season? Clayton Kershaw is still without a timetable for a return, so the Dodgers needed good starting pitcher. Here is the full deal:

This deal has all sorts of fantasy ramifications. Reddick is hitting .296 with eight homers, 28 RBI, and five steals in 68 games. He figures to lock down right field for the Dodgers, who just two short years ago had more outfielders than they knew what to do with. Now they had to trade for one.

Reddick should see a nice increase in stats moving from the Coliseum to Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium isn’t small, but it’s a lot smaller than where he was playing. If Reddick is out there in your league (he is still available in 52% of ESPN.com leagues), I would go pick him up. Don’t be surprised if he reaches 20 homers on the season.

The clear loser here is Yasiel Puig. The Dodgers failed to trade him after landing Reddick, so they sent down Puig to AAA instead. If you own Puig in most leagues, he can be dropped. You can hang on to him in dynasty leagues since he is only 25 years old.

Hill is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 14 starts this year, but he has only started three games since Memorial Day due to blister issues. This should be a huge red flag for the Dodgers, but they figure that as long as he can take the mound until Kershaw returns, they will get by. Hill’s stats should stay around the same as they were in Oakland. I would expect his ERA to be at or around 3 by the end of the year, but he should still be strong enough to help the Dodgers and your fantasy team as long as he is over the blister issue.

Jesse Hahn will replace Rich Hill in Oakland’s rotation. He is 2-4 with a 5.53 ERA, but he pitched well against the Rays in his return to the majors after nearly two months at AAA. The A’s hope he can keep it up. It might be worth keeping an eye on for those of you in deeper leagues. You can add him if he gets hot.

20 year old Grant Holmes is 8-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 18 starts with high-A Rancho Cucamonga. Holmes has a 3.61 ERA in 52 starts in A ball with 275 strikeouts in 257 innings pitched. Holmes wont help the A’s this year, but he looks like he will within the next few years. He has been steadily climbing up prospect lists all year.

23 yeard old Frankie Montas owns a 2.25 ERA in four minor league starts this year and 22 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. Montas had a 4.80 ERA in seven major league appearances with the Chicago White Sox in September of 2015. He could end up in Oakland’s rotation if Hahn struggles. If he does, those of you in deep leagues may want to take notice. He has 412 strikeouts in 398.2 career minor league innings.

24 year old Jharel Cotton is 8-5 with a 4.90 ERA in 16 starts at AAA Oklahoma City. He has a staggering 119 strikeouts in just 97.1 innings pitched. Don’t let the ERA scare you. The mean ERA in the PCL is near 4. Cotton should be in Oakland soon, and those of you in deeper leagues should take a shot on him. That strikeout potential is elite, and the Coliseum will really help his ERA.
