Los Angeles Dodgers send Yasiel Puig to the minors
By David Rouben
The Los Angeles Dodgers weren’t quelling trade rumors at all when they optioned Yasiel Puig to Triple-A.
The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be getting more dysfunctional by the day. Leading up to the trade deadline, there were multiple rumors that outfielder Yasiel Puig would get dealt, and the fact that they acquired Josh Reddick certainly didn’t help ease concerns about his place in the lineup.
The soap opera continued when Ken Rosenthal reported that Puig “stormed out” when the club told him he would either be traded or sent down to the minors. He called their bluff, but now, in addition to not travelling with the team for their series with the Colorado Rockies, the club have confirmed that Puig has been optioned to the Triple-A affiliate the Oklahoma City Dodgers:
It’s no secret that Puig has dropped off ever since his rookie year – his OPS has fallen from .925 to .706 this year — but he remains a valuable asset with both the bat and glove, and the Dodgers can ill afford to lose him given that they’re just two games behind the San Francisco Giants.

However, it’s possible that a stint down in the minors could prove beneficial for Puig, at least in terms of getting his act together so that he can help the team down the stretch. But until the waiver deadline passes, don’t expect the trade rumors to go away anytime soon.
