Chicago Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan has suffered a slight knee injury on Wednesday after slipping on the turf in Bears camp.

According to Chicago Bears beat reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times Patrick Finley, Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan suffered a slight knee injury in Bears camp on Wednesday. He reportedly tweaked his knee while backpedaling. Bears head coach John Fox doesn’t think Trevathan’s injury is anything serious.

Trevathan was arguably the biggest free agency splash the Bears made this past spring. He had been a key piece in the all-time dominant 2015 Broncos defense and had essentially played his way out of Denver.

Trevathan was worth more than what Broncos general manager John Elway could afford to pay the former sixth-round pick to stay with the 2016 team at inside linebacker. Though the 2015 Bears weren’t anything close to as strong of a team as the Super Bowl 50 Champion Broncos, Trevathan does reconnect with a familiar face in relocating to the Windy City.

His former head coach with the Broncos in Fox is now in his second season helping turn around the lowly Bears franchise. Trevathan and former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Jerrell Freeman were acquired in 2016 NFL free agency by the Bears to bolster their front seven.

With Trevathan being a huge part of the Bears’ growth this offseason, should his injury to his right knee be anything substantial, it could prove costly for the Bears in the early part of the year. Trevathan may already know the type of ship that Fox runs, but given that it is his first year with Chicago, he could miss out on building on-field chemistry with his defensive teammates.
