Notre Dame put Texas jerseys on tackle dummies (Video)

Notre Dame has made it personal before their season opener against Texas.

Before Notre Dame faces Texas in the season opener for the second straight year, they’ve changed up their practice regimen. They want to show their opponents that game day won’t be the only time they’ll be tackling someone in a Texas jersey.

Courtesy of Bleacher Report, Notre Dame have revamped their tackling dummies by putting on Longhorns jerseys. Looks like this year’s CFB kickoff just got personal.

At the start of the season, Notre Dame announced a partnership with Bleacher Report to give exclusive behind-the-scenes access. Doing this is quite clearly a ploy for the camera, and gives them a flair for the dramatic. Even if they weren’t being filmed, it’s hard to imagine Notre Dame not taking this seriously.

With both Deshone Kizer and Malik Zaire healthy, Notre Dame should feel bullish on their chances of making the playoff. An emphatic win over the Texas Longhorns would be the first step towards that, and would signal a challenge to the rest of their opposition.

The two teams can hardly be considered rivals since this meeting is only the 11th time they’ll be playing each other. However, this will be the second straight time they’ve opened their season against one another. The Irish won last year’s contest 38-3, and they’ll feel as though they can repeat that performance despite the fact that they’re playing at DKR this time.

If this tactic proves to be successful, look for them to start putting USC or Stanford jerseys on their tackling dummies by the time those games roll around.

Do you think this practice plot will help the Irish get ready for the season opener vs. Charlie Strong’s Longhorns or is this just fodder that won’t matter when the two get on the field?
