Texas A&M transfer Kenny Hill has been named as the new quarterback for the TCU Horned Frogs, replacing Trevone Boykin.

With the departure of Trevone Boykin to the NFL, the TCU Horned Frogs were left without a viable option at starting quarterback. That is, until a transfer from Texas A&M came in and was named the new starter. Head coach Gary Patterson made the announcement on Thursday, following a team practice.

Kenny Hill, a 6’1″ junior, earned the job and will take over quarterback duties for the team. He will make his debut on Sept. 3, when TCU opens up their 2016 schedule against South Dakota State. Hill was chosen over sophomore Foster Sawyer for the position.

More from College Football

Hill comes from a rocky breakup with the Aggies. He lost his starting job after a bad series of games, and a suspension essentially slammed the door on his time in College Station. He was released from his scholarship and landed at TCU last summer. He spent the 2015 season as TCU’s scout team quarterback, sitting out his transfer year.

A year earlier in 2014, Hill had a remarkable season, however. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards and connected for 23 touchdowns. His completion percentage, 66.7 percent, ranked as the second-highest in A&M history, and the majority of his numbers came over the span of just eight games. During a game at South Carolina, he threw for 511 yards, the first time that had happened in school history.

Now he looks to get back on track and back to a model of that 2014 season. He listed TCU as one of his top three choices, and now has the opportunity to make something happen. Coach Patterson spoke to the media and explained his decision.

"“When it’s all said and done, Kenny Hill will be our guy. I feel comfortable with it.”"

In team news, Patterson noted that the Horned Frogs will be simulating a game weekend starting on Friday, and everything will be about their first meeting with South Dakota State.
