Southampton have struggled over their first four games in 2015-16. Their losses away at Manchester United and Arsenal (where they would have drawn, if not for a late penalty) were no real cause for concern, but draws at home to Watford and Sunderland may have been. New manager Claude Puel has his side playing some characteristically attractive soccer, but they have displayed a soft underbelly so far. A dominant performance in the Europa League midweek may be exactly the confidence boost the Saints need heading into a game they will expect to win at home.

Swansea were expected by many to be in the relegation battle this season. Their first four games haven’t offered definitive evidence either way. Their only win came against Burnley, while they have lost to Hull and Leicester. Last week, they were lucky to salvage a 2-2 draw with Chelsea after Leroy Fer fouled Gary Cahill on his way to scoring Swansea’s second goal. The jury is very much still out. Fer has looked excellent in midfield, while Gylfi Sigurdsson remains as dangerous as always, but beyond that there are still plenty of question marks. A tough trip to Southampton may provide more answers.
