The Boise State Broncos don’t care about the Oregon State Beavers, as they decided to run the old Statue of Liberty play in Oregon State territory.

Certainly, everybody who watches football has heard of the Statue of Liberty play but do they know what it is? If you watch Boise State football you know this is a favorite trick play in their playbook. They famously ran it in the Fiesta Bowl win against Oklahoma years ago and broke it out against the Oregon State Beavers at Reser Stadium in Corvallis on Saturday afternoon.

Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien fakes the pass to the flat and instead hands the ball off behind his back to running back Jeremy McNichols for a Broncos’ first down deep in Beavers territory.

McNichols would later score on that drive for the Broncos to put Boise State up 7-0 on Oregon State early. He would get great blocking in front of him on that easy first down for the Broncos. Rypien sold the Statue of Liberty magnificently to set up the sweep running play to the left side of the field.

Boise State has been one of the best mid-major programs in the country since 2000. The Broncos should be one of the few teams in the Group of 5 to keep an eye on should anything happen to the Houston Cougars out of The American.

Oregon State had a brutal 2015 season under head coach Gary Andersen, but the Beavers should be a better team in the Pac-12 here in 2016. Andersen helped build Utah State into a strong mid-major program before a brief stint as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers.

Rypien was bold enough to run the Statue of Liberty play on a Power 5 team. It worked out wonderfully in Corvallis on Saturday afternoon for the Broncos.
