DraftKings Early MLB Picks For September 29

There are only two games in the DraftKings early tournament today. Of course, there are no aces going. There are only three middling options and one complete wild card. Can the past stats help us at all?

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Ryan Merritt will be making his first start since September 2nd at AAA Columbus. Merritt has a 1.50 ERA and two strikeouts over six inning in three relief appearances this year. He has little upside considering he doesn’t get many strikeouts and wont go many innings.

Best Bet:

Daniel Norris ($7,800): The Indians are hitting .262 against Norris in 42 at bats, but they have scored only four runs and struck out ten times. Those numbers are average, but so is his price. With the options we have to choose from tonight, average tops the list.

Honorable Mention:

Joe Ross ($7,000): This is a short slate, so we are just trying to stick with the two pitchers that will hurt us the least. The Diamondbacks are 6-16(.375) against Ross, but they have only one run to show for it. They have also struck out four times. Ross is likely the lesser of the four evils this afternoon.

Robbie Ray ($7,600): Ray has strikeout upside (eight in 31 at bats vs. Washington), but he has been hit hard by the Nationals. They are 10-31(.323) with two homers and six RBI. However, one of those homers and three of the RBI are by the injured Wilson Ramos. That lessens the risk quite a bit.

Wilmer Difo ($2,600) is 2-3 with a RBI against Robbie Ray. Chris Heisey ($3,000) has two hits in eight at bats with three walks and a solo homer. Fortunately for Ray, Wilson Ramos is out and Daniel Murphy is likely out. They have the rest of the runs against Ray.

Jean Segura ($5,400) is 3-6 with a RBI against Joe Ross.

Carlos Santana ($3,900) is 3-5 with a double and a RBI against Daniel Norris. Brandon Guyer ($3,400) has a double and a RBI in his two hits in eight at bats.
