The Winnipeg Jets were off to a quiet start until there was about a minute remaining in the first period.
Nikolaj Ehlers capitalized on a rough Minnesota turnover and fired the puck past Devan Dubnyk to give the Jets the lead. This is the Danish winger’s first goal of the season, and it was unassisted.
Despite little time remaining in the period, the Jets weren’t finished after that point. Blake Wheeler scored with three seconds left, and the Jets went into the intermission two goals up.
The Danish winger looked a bit quiet in Thursday’s 5-4 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes and did not score. Also, he did not register a shot on goal against Carolina, but finished with a hit and skated for 19:07.
Ehlers was taken ninth overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and has since been a force for Winnipeg on the bottom-six. Though he lacks size, he possesses great play-making ability and can do amazing things with the puck.
In 2015-16, Ehlers finished with 38 points (15 G, 23 A) in 73 games. He was also tied for sixth on the Jets in scoring and was a plus-3. He’s a strong bottom-six forward and a force on the right side, providing depth and skill.
The Jets can take full advantage of Ehlers skill, and it has proven to benefit them so far. He is one of the team’s best forwards and can make plays all by himself. Not to mention, he makes those around him better and can make quick choices on the fly.

Winnipeg had an impressive comeback in their debut, but there are parts of their game that need improvement. They must remain consistent and keep their momentum, and not let the opposition take advantage of them. In addition, they must capitalize on the man advantage. The team went 1-for-5 in their win over Carolina.
