Geno Smith is taking over at QB for the New York Jets this week and their top receiver Brandon Marshall had a few clever words regarding it.

The New York Jets have handed the ball over to Geno Smith after Ryan Fitzpatrick led them to a 1-5 start. In six games, Fitzpatrick has thrown 11 interceptions to just five touchdowns. Smith has not exactly been much better.

Drafted in the second round, Smith has been nothing but a bust for the Jets. Who can forget in 2014 when he completed 2 of 8 passes against the Buffalo Bills for five yards and three picks. But if you’re a Jets’ fan, you have to learn to look on the bright side. Last game Smith started for the Jets was in Miami where he threw for 358 yards, three touchdowns and no picks.

The Jets know that Smith is not the answer at QB and will part ways with him as soon as they can, but for now he is the starter and Brandon Marshall had this to say.

“It’s been amazing to see this guy grow and really punch adversity in the face,” Marshall said.

Smith was punched in the face by IK Enemkpali over a $600 plane ticket at the beginning of last season. This kept Smith out and gave the starting job to Fitzpatrick, ultimately saving their season. They went 10-6, missed the playoffs, started 1-5 this year and here we are back where we started with Geno Smith.

It’s at the point where all anyone can do is make jokes about the Jet because there’s nothing else to do. They have four quarterbacks on the roster and only one has potential. Being 1-5, it’s time to let Bryce Petty on the field and see what he’s got.

After this season, Fitzpatrick and Smith will be gone. Petty will be in his third year with no experience and Christian Hackenberg should have never been drafted, let alone in the second round. Sounds like a solid foundation the Jets have built.
