Nintendo is looking to add a bigger catalog of classic games to their Virtual Console service. We may be able to play GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo already has a solid catalog of Virtual Console games that you can purchase on the eShop. We can play some of the most iconic games from the NES, the Nintendo 64, and so on. But, fans have been clamoring to play some GameCube games.

According to Eurogamer, multiple sources have confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will support GameCube games on its Virtual Console service.

It’s also been rumored that Nintendo is already testing GameCube games on the Switch. Some of those games include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

This is absolutely fantastic news for gamers everywhere. In recent years, it’s been a trend for developers to revisit games via remasters. But, on the other hand, we’ve been able to revisit iconic games via Nintendo’s Virtual Console service, like Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64.

Don’t get us wrong, though. We aren’t opposed to HD remasters since most of them improve on the experience. For example, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD was far superior to the original in every way.

It ran a lot smoother, the visuals were stunning, and it was a sign of what’s to come for future Zelda titles. We would love to see Super Mario Sunshine in HD. But, as of right now, we’re content that (maybe) we’ll get to play it on the Switch.

There’s a variety of classic GameCube games that we hope will make their way to the Virtual Console service. There’s games like Mario Kart: Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and many more.
