As a (reformed) LeBron James hater, disser of musicals and native Clevelander, I feel the need to bring this to the general attention of the public: Somebody went out and made a musical about LeBron’s life and it’s kind of dope.

Hear me out here because hot takes shall follow this sentence. Groups of people should not be gathering together to sing things at other groups of people in a narrative style. To me it just seems strange and an unnecessary way of delivering information, but I digress: This musical is awesome.

It’s like Hamilton, but with sports

First, it clocks in at just under five minutes, about the average length of your typical music video and just enough to hold your attention while not beginning to grate on your nerves. Second, the people singing are pretty solid and the lyrics aren’t (entirely) cringe worthy. And finally, some of the cameos are hilarious (read: the brief Kobe Bryant cameo is prime).

Everyone from Steph Curry to Dwyane Wade helps tell the tale of LeBron’s life. Each character moves the story along through the different parts of LeBron’s rise from high school phenom to the infamous demolition of the Warriors in last year’s finals.

There are a few points that don’t seem to add up, mainly the weird jerseys that jut out past many of the player’s shoulders and weird dance numbers that will likely make you giggle at the outlandishness of something like this. Also the dude that plays LeBron looks like a combination of if Curry hit the weights for a few months and Michael Smith from ESPN’s His and Her’s.

But the product is fun to watch and easy to rewatch and share with coworkers and make jokes about. The producers of the video say that they were inspired by Hamilton so expect some more fun from the account coming soon. I would personally pay money for a Russell Westbrook musical.
