Boise State(-7.5) vs. Baylor at Phoenix, AZ(4):
Boise State(10-2, 6-2 Mountain West:
Wins: at Louisiana-Lafayette(45-10), vs. Washington State(31-28), at Oregon State(38-24), vs. Utah State(21-10), vs. New Mexico(49-21), vs. Colorado State(28-23), vs. BYU(28-27), vs. San Jose State(45-31), at Hawaii(52-16), vs. UNLV(42-25)
Losses: at Wyoming(28-30), at Air Force(20-27)
Record vs. bowl teams: 6-2
Boise had a good season, but not against the spread. That said, the spread is low enough in this game that it shouldn’t matter too much. Brett Rypien, Jeremy McNichols and Thomas Sperbeck are good enough to play for any school. The defense has had their issues though. That could spell trouble against Baylor.
Baylor(6-6, 3-6 Big 12(10):
Wins: vs. Northwestern State(55-7), vs. SMU(40-13), at Rice(38-10), vs. Oklahoma State(35-24), at Iowa State(45-42), vs. Kansas(49-7)
Losses: at Texas(34-35), vs. TCU(22-62), at Oklahoma(24-45), vs. Kansas State(21-42), vs. Texas Tech(35-54), at West Virginia(21-24)
Record vs. bowl teams: 1-4
Baylor won six straight to open the season, then dropped their last six. The loss of quarterback Seth Russell once again derailed the season, but it was already in jeopardy before he went out. From star running back Shock Linwood shoving a coach on the sideline to the continuing probe into the allegations that got Art Briles fired, this is a season to forget for Baylor. Would a win give them redemption?
Prediction:
Big 12(10) teams have not done well in bowl games lately. Baylor is no exception. Boise is a disappointment against the spread, but they still put together a solid season. Baylor still has plenty of weapons on offense. This team won a bowl game last year with a wide receiver starting at quarterback. Can Boise keep up with their athletes? I am expecting a high scoring game, but Baylor runs out of gas first.
Pick: Boise State
