SMU star forward Semi Ojeleye rose up off of a missed three and unleashed one of the nastiest dunks you’ll see in March Madness on USC

Despite occupying the No. 6 seed in the East Region, there may not be a hotter team entering March Madness than the SMU Mustangs. With just four losses on the season and after winning 19-straight coming into the 2017 NCAA Tournament, they’re a team that everyone should be weary of. A big reason for that is the play of their star forward, Semi Ojeleye.

Once a recruit for the Duke Blue Devils, Ojeleye has been a star in every sense for SMU this season. He led them in scoring with 18.9 points per game, but it’s how he did so that’s most impressive. The 6-7 forward has a beautiful stroke and tremendous range. However, he can also fly and showcase his athleticism at an elite level.

The USC Trojans, SMU’s opponent on Friday, probably are wishing that the second part of that wasn’t so much the case.

Early in the second half, the Trojans were trying to make a run to erase the Mustangs’ eight-point halftime lead. That’s when SMU pulled up from long range in the corner, but ultimately missed the attempt. Ojeleye then came crashing to the boards from the top of the key, rose up over everyone (by a mile) and then brought the rebound down with a crash on a simply ridiculous putback dunk:

If everyone in the arena had the dunk contest score cards, they’d be running around swinging the “10.”

We might not see a better dunk than that for the entire NCAA Tournament, and it’s only the First Round. What’s more, it was also a pivotal play for SMU as it stifled the momentum of USC and ultimately allowed them to pull back ahead by a more comfortable margin.
